Sum-Sum-Summertime Watermelon Martini Recipe

It’s officially summer this week, people!  My favorite season, especially now that I live in a low-humidity city (meaning: my hair doesn’t expand exponentially).  And summer means time for our kids to snack on watermelon…

Watermelon is serious business for Miss Skye.

“How the heck am I supposed to eat this thing?” wonders Drew.

…And time for us moms to get our summertime drink on with WATERMELON MARTINIS.  Oh yes, we are not only celebrating the return of warm weather, but also the return of my weekly(ish) drink recipes.  Woo-hoo!  While some parenting sites offer lovely family dinner recipes for sauteed kale and spinach pancakes, I think we all know that’s not my forté.  Me?  I get you liquored up.  Because us mamas deserve a drink sometimes.  So here it is, our drink to kick off the summer:

WATERMELON MARTINI

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. Citron Vodka

1 oz. Watermelon Pucker

1/2 oz. Triple Sec

1 oz. Lemonade

Splash of 7-Up

Wrestle watermelon slice from kid’s hands for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

We’re keeping it easy for our kick-off drink:  Just mix all ingredients together over ice, shake and strain into a (chilled, ideally) martini glass. (Pro bartending tip:  Make sure the top of your shaker is actually ON to avoid spilling contents all over the kitchen counter and floor and having to drop angry F-bombs, much to your cats’ chagrin.)  Garnish with that slice of watermelon and…

…Hello, lover.  So cool that it’s gotta wear shades.

When Mr. Candy (initially wary of the citron vodka) sampled the martini, he immediately nodded in approval and said, “Oh yeah, that’ll taste good on a warm night.”

Happy Sum-Sum-Summertime, everyone.
