Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s Tragically Normal Baby Shower Details

Nick Cannon prepares to eat his young

No celebrity baby shower is complete without a photo and a few anecdotes sold to the tabloids, so here are Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon doing their dutiful part.  (Seriously, what is Nick doing up there?  Anybody who’s read What to Expect When You’re Expecting should know you NEVER attempt to eat your young… without ketchup and mustard.  Takes the edge off.)

Sadly, it looked like a classy affair, with no glitter or Hello Kitty cupcakes or maternity micro-minis in sight at the rooftop Conservatory Grill at the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills.

*Sigh*  So very disappointing.

“I’d never been to a baby shower,” Mariah told Life & Style. “This was my first one — it was so festive!”

Guests — including Randy Jackson, Piers Morgan, Penny Marshall, Lorraine Bracco and director Brett Ratner — celebrated the imminent arrival of the twins, due in late April/early May, by chowing down on gourmet pizza and appetizers and getting their drink on with Mariah’s very own champagne, Angel.  Which had to have been tough on pregnant Mariah because we know how she likes her champagne.

However, even I have to admit this is pretty sweet:

“… To top it off, fans from more than 50 countries sent well-wishes and stories in a book they made for our twins titled ‘Always Be My Babies,’ which was the sweetest gesture in the world,” Mariah revealed. “It was a night I will never forget.”

Perhaps to pay back your loyal fans — Teenage Candy must have listened to Vision of Love approximately ten-billion times in her bedroom, until the CD was worn down to the size of a nickel (true story) — you could wear THIS (as a dress) at your next public appearance:

“Doesn’t this just scream ‘Classy Baby Mama’?”

Candy Kirby is the founder of The Laughing Stork and a professional fun-maker who will never stop chasing her lifelong dream: to find the Pomeranian or porn star after whom her parents must have named her. A humor columnist for Disney, Nickelodeon, Scary Mommy, Reductress and Redbook, she also used to be a staff writer for the soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful, where she penned many scripts featuring prolonged heated stares and countless “Who’s the Daddy?” story lines. Candy lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two young kids and three rescue Persian cats, the latter of whom are the real brains behind this operation (so send all complaints to them).
