Live-Blogging “Yo Gabba Gabba!”

Episode:  “I Like Bugs”

:01 – DJ Lance is hesitant to show his face, his dreams of starring in a gritty Spike Lee film fading with every new episode.  But alas…

:01 – Wait — is that a boombox that DJ Lance is carrying?  Welcome to 1985!  Next they’ll be encouraging the kids to tape the show on their VCRs.

:01 – Turns out, this is a special boombox that doubles as a house for a cast of, um, interesting-looking characters.

:01 — And by “interesting,” I mean STD-ravaged penis.

:01 – “Today we’re going to have a fun with our little friends, The Bugs! I like bugs!” exclaims DJ Lance as though he’s trying to convince himself.

:01 — Turns out, Muno LOVES bugs.  Like, truly.  Probably as a result of his intimate familiarity with certain parasitic insects.

:02 – Muno once again declares his undying passion for bugs.  (Drinking game alert:  Do a shot every time Muno says he loves bugs.)  Even the talking cacti are beginning to wonder about this guy.

:03  — “Why does Muno love bugs?” asks Brobee (the green dude that overcompensates for his lack of nose by wearing too much lipstick). “Because they’re so little, but they can do so much!” explains Muno.  Overcome, Muno tenderly raps about just how much he loves bugs.   “I like bugs, baby, how ‘bout you?”  Muno’s mad rapping skillz are reminiscent of David Silver on 90210.  Yes, he’s THAT GOOD.

:06 – A cartoon with singing bugs, plus dancing bugs emerging from apples.  Mmmmm.

:08 – You know, given the way DJ Lance talks to us, he must think we’re a bunch of drooling, hard-of-hearing 90-year-olds.   (So, obviously, we’ve met.)

:07 – Just a sec, I need to scratch my head.  All this bug talk is making me itchy.

:09 – I think we can all agree these guys are on some sort of hallucinogen.

:08 – No!  I kid!  Of course there are no drugs involved here.  Completely sober, they declare that they wish they were small enough to follow the tiny bugs into the rotting tree stump.  [LIGHT-BULB GOES OFF HERE]  Muno has an idea…!  He screams for Plex the Robot, who magically appears and agrees to make them tiny so they can enter the tree stump.  Poof!  The now-tiny crew joins the Oski Bugs, who don’t question the crew’s sudden and mysterious appearance, and agree to show them around the stump.  The crew could not be more thrilled.  Naturally, they do a joyous dance.

:11 – The Queen Bug demands to meet this crew of characters.

Now we know where Kanye West gets his fashion inspiration.

:13 – They visit the place where all the new Oski Bugs hatch.  Awwww.  Time to grab the bug spray!  (No!  I kid!  *Ahem*)  And what a coincidence: the eggs are hatching now!  A heartwarming moment.  The Queen asks Muno if he would like to hold one.

Um, I’m not sure letting this guy hold a newborn is a wise idea.  Certainly not without bathing in a vat of sanitizer first.

:14 — Brobee wants to know if all babies come from eggs, thereby fueling a discussion about The Birds and the Bees.  Because who better to teach your kids about baby-making than a show featuring a large, talking, inflamed penis?

:16 – It’s been a fruitful five minutes, filled with meeting royalty and birthing babies, so they finally decide to say farewell to their new friends and leave the rotting tree stump.  Plex, who is merely a guest star on the show, misses his opportunity to squash the crew and step out of their shadow when he makes them big again.

:17 – Right now, Weezer is regretting changing agents.

:22 – “Today we bugged out!” declares DJ Lance.  Somewhere, the talking cacti are rolling their eyes at the corny pun.
